A hike that'll kick your butt(e)!

At a steady pace, with needed rests, the hike will take about 3 hours round trip. Enjoy your journey both on the way up and down, there is a lot to soak in. Both the Little Butte hike and the Big Butte hike are for all ages. Always be aware of your surroundings and self limitations. Safety is first!

Each butte has a hiking path marked for easy navigation. There are also printed maps available. When at the top be sure to take lots of pictures and rest.

The Little Missouri Buttes are located on Nuckolls Ranch, Inc.

Butte Hikes are open Wed - Sun, 9 am - 6 pm, June - Aug.

Once you reach Nuckolls Ranch, Inc. there will be signs leading you to our check-in station.
All hikers must check-in at the Barlow Hut and sign a liability waiver before hiking.
Directions to the Barlow Hut will be provided after booking a hike.

The Little Butte, is about a 3 hour hike, round trip, from the trailhead. This hike will involve a steep climb through pine trees, on a dirt and pine-needle path. At the top you will find amazing views, and a set up for pictures.

Big Butte
The Big Butte, is a 3 hour hike from the trailhead. This hike will involve a steep climb through boulders, smaller rocks, and trees. At the top you will be higher in elevation than Devils Tower, with good binoculars you will be able to see the top of the Tower!
